Asset Information Requiements Guidance. The AIR is a document which forms part of the ISO 19650 process, put simply it should articulate the asset data the organisation or owner would like to be delivered on project completion. In many cases it is likely that asset/facilities management processes are already in place within your organisation, however they may not have been structured in a manner which enables them to be specified as a project deliverable. The AIR specifies the information required to successfully operate and maintain an asset, typically focusing on specific components of an asset. This guidance document helps to ask specific questions of your existing asset management processes in order to develop a suitable AIR for your project.

A global team of over 200 experts are continually improving these templates for free access to all BIM communities around the word.

In alignment with ISO 19650, the templates team didn’t want the world to keep reinventing the wheel when it comes to BEPs and other ISO 19650 resources. Having a central resource for experts to curate and all teams around the world to access for free helps advance the use of BIM more rapidly – but importantly – in a standardised way.

While BIM is rapidly expanding around the globe, there are significant differences between construction companies’ experience with and business benefits from BIM within various regions. This report reveals the value that contractors find in their use of BIM in nine of the largest global construction markets: Australia/New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, U.S. and the U.K.

It offers insights, both overall and by market, into the profile of contractors using BIM, the benefits and ROI derived from BIM investments and the critical activities and practices where BIM is implemented. Snapshots of contractor responses by region also provide additional understanding of the current use and future potential of BIM globally.

In 2012, Dodge D&A published the first Business Value of BIM for Infrastructure “SmartMarket” Report. The conclusions of the report were twofold: BIM in infrastructure appeared to lag about three years behind the building sector, but there were many positive signs that its use was poised to become more widespread.

The findings of the 2017 update clearly demonstrate the fulfilment of that promise. It highlights the value BIM provides for owners, engineers and contractors in the infrastructure sector in the US, UK, France and Germany.  It provides a comprehensive view of BIM for infrastructure through articles describing BIM use on specific road, airport and rail projects. This includes the use of BIM across and beyond the lifecycle of an asset, including creating models of existing assets for planning and using data from models for operations and asset management.

Data from the study of transportation infrastructure in the US, UK, France and Germany includes:

  • The increasing rates of implementation among BIM users.
  • The benefits of using BIM, the investments made to enhance those benefits and its perceived ROI.
  • The perspective of non-users, including their attitudes toward BIM and factors that could drive adoption.
  • Individual breakdowns of the top findings in the four countries featured.

The Global BIM Network hosted its inaugural General Assembly on 2 December 2021, bringing together representatives from public sector organisations to hear how the growing global digital construction sector is bringing benefits to people and places across the world – helping to build back better from COVID-19 and meet net-zero targets.

Attendees heard from members of the Global BIM Network in three knowledge exchange panel sessions, where the experience of regional and national digital construction initiatives was shared providing lessons learned, best practice and valuable insights for implementing BIM-based digital transformation strategies in public sector-funded projects.

Governments across the world are transforming the way infrastructure is designed, built, operated and integrated by implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) to improve social, economic and environmental outcomes for people and places. By governments and multi-lateral institutions and investment banks encouraging the adoption of BIM across the value chain, there is greater opportunity to deliver both public and private-sector benefits.

In this series of four webinars held from 3-11 March 2021, public sector, multi-lateral representatives and leading BIM initiatives across the world addressed a global audience consisting of policy-makers, public procurers and built environment professionals from over 90 countries.

Attendees learned:

  • Best practice in national BIM introduction for the public sector, industry, and the built environment
  • How governments and multilateral investors are driving productivity in the global construction market through introduction of standards and standardization
  • The social, economic and environmental benefits and real-world impacts of digital transformation in the design and delivery of national infrastructure

Hosted on the CDBB’s website, this massive open online training course (MOOC), launched in 2019, is presented in timed modules including reference materials and explanatory videos. It offers a guided pathway to a standards-based, public sector-led Building Information Modelling (BIM) implementation and is aimed at policymakers and public clients involved with procuring, owning or operating built assets.

The modules provide an understanding of BIM and the strategic building blocks of its implementation, alongside other topics such as the importance of public leadership in the construction sector’s digital transformation and how digital transformation can create private and public sector benefits.

The MOOC is delivered in two ways:

  • A self-study option for public sector stakeholders who cannot engage with CDBB’s international team.
  • More interactive reference material that supports and supplements direct engagement with the CDBB’s International team and partner consultants.

Additional modules will be published over time.
