Launch of Roadmap for the Global Built Environment

On 2nd December, the Global BIM Network (the Network) will bring together members of the global public sector at the First Annual Global BIM Network’s General Assembly, with the aim to foster a more productive and collaborative global digital construction sector that delivers benefits for people and places.

At the General Assembly, Global BIM Network’s members will share lessons learnt from national digital transformation initiatives, consider how governments can tackle challenges collaboratively with industry, and discuss the guidance, tools and evidence that will inform national and international policy on better infrastructure delivery. By increasing the capacity and capability of the public sector as client, the Network aims to encourage the global construction sector to achieve shared goals for COVID-19 recovery, net-zero and environmental sustainability, and socioeconomic prosperity.

14:00 UTC – Welcome and Presentation of the Global BIM Network Roadmap

The Global BIM Network Roadmap will promote international collaboration to grow public sector capacity in built environment policy and transformation initiatives.

14:30 UTC – The Costs Benefits of Information Management: A Global Perspective

In this session, panellists will discuss the strategic development of cost-benefit methodologies that demonstrate the benefits of BIM implementation in public sector funded projects.

15:00 UTC – From Policy to Implementation: Procurement Practices Around the World

In this session, panellists will provide presentations about their journey from developing a national or subnational strategy at the policy level to deliver better infrastructure through BIM and information management, through to the practical steps to implementing BIM through public procurement. 

Speakers: Luke Belfield*, Acting Victorian Chief Engineer, Australia; Jaroslav Nechyba, Director of BIM Strategy Department, Czech Agency for Standardization, Czech Republic. Moderator: Roger Grant, Executive Director, Building Information Management at the National Institute of Building Sciences, USA. *Matthew Kehoe, Director, Digital Build Program, Office of Projects Victoria, Australia will be attending the live Q&A session instead of Luke Belfield.

15:30 UTC – Government and Industry: Working Together to Drive Benefits for People and Places

In this session, panellists will provide an overview of developing their national strategy to deliver better infrastructure through BIM and information management. 

Speakers: Daniel Gómez*, Deputy Director at the National Planning Department, Colombia; Fergus Harradence, Deputy Director, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, UK; Sebastián Manriquez, Subdirector, Planbim of CORFO, Chile. Moderator: Valentina Sarmiento Buitrago, Head of the Productivity Team, Ministry of Housing, City and Territory, Colombia. *Jonathan Bernal, Director of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy, Colombia will be attending the live Q&A session instead of Daniel Gómez
